Avoca resident honored as Dietary Employee of the Year

Lisa Peterson of Avoca Specialty Care received Care Initiatives Outstanding Dietary Employee Award for 2015. Peterson joined the staff in 1990 and has been cooking and baking for residents for the past 25 years.

“Lisa has been a very dedicated, hard-working cook who takes pride in adding her own special touch in the meals she creates for residents,” says Dietary Services Manager Patty Lippold. “She is very well organized and has a great work ethic.

Staff also benefit from her culinary skill. Peterson often bakes at home and brings her creations in for everyone to try.

Albia resident honored as CNA of the Year

Connie Elswick of Oakwood Specialty Care in Albia received Care Initiatives Outstanding CNA Award for 2015. Elswick has been serving as a certified aide/med aide/restorative aide for almost 20 years.

“Connie will stop at nothing to get her residents what they need to thrive,” says Administrator Rachel Gooden. “She is so passionate for her residents, she even wrote her local congressman regarding some of the issues residents and veterans have with their insurance and how the issues with government programs affect long term care residents.”

Sibley resident honored as Outstanding Business Office Manager of the Year

Kim Van Der Sloot of Sibley Specialty Care received Care Initiatives Outstanding Business Office Manager Award for 2015. Van Der Sloot joined the staff as a nurse aide in 2003, with the goal of getting an associate’s degree. When she accomplished that, she applied for the business office manager position and has been in that position since 2008.

“She takes great pride in our accounts receivables, consistently one of the lowest in Care Initiatives.  Kim works hard to keep our financial house in order,” says Administrator Jessica McDyer.
