Hospice patient receives gift, prayers from Nashville icon

Beverly with signed photo of Dolly PartonMusic has always been a part of Beverly's life. She passed the love of music onto her children and grandchildren. Beverly recorded an album before becoming the lead female singer in three Country Western bands. She performed in bars and dance halls in the Des Moines metro area.

Like most artists Beverly used her love of music as inspiration to deal with trials and tribulations in her life. Beverly was asked which, of all the songs she sang, was her favorite one to perform. Beverly tapped o her fingers and sang the first 4 words to Muleskinner Blues. This song was performed by a variety of artists including Dolly Parton in the 70’s and 80’s. This song is a mix of country, bluegrass and yodeling. When talking about the song Beverly stated with a wink and smile that she thought she sang the high notes better than Dolly and held it longer too! Her daughter would later say that her mom singing this song always got the biggest reaction from the crowd.

Our Social Worker reached out to the Dolly Parton Foundation to share Beverly's story and to ask for any kind of memorabilia. Dolly Parton’s staff loved Beverly’s story and sent her an autographed picture from Dolly. Additionally, they wanted Beverly to know that they were praying for her.
