Waterloo volunteer earns mayoral lifetime award

Waterloo volunteer mayor awardCare Initiatives Hospice Volunteer Ruthie Lauer received the Waterloo Mayor’s Volunteer Award for Lifetime Achievement at an April 9 luncheon.

Ruthie has been an invaluable member of our Care Initiative Hospice team. She will visit patients as they near end of life and is available whenever there is a need – day or night. She befriends the patient and their family members and enriches their lives. In the past year, Ruthie has volunteered more than 650 hours with our patients.

Additionally, she is an ally in the community taking her time to help elderly residents and those with illness to get to appointments or the store. She gets their mail, takes the garbage out and even tends their garden.

She also enjoys spending time volunteering with children at her church and helping in the kitchen.

Care Initiatives Hospice would not be the same without her! Thank you so much!
