Care Initiatives Hospice welcomes new Team Director in Des Moines

(December, 2019) Darci Dooley, RN, CHPN has been promoted to Team Director of the Care Initiatives Hospice – Des Moines office. In her role as Team Director, Dooley will oversee an expert team of registered nurses, hospice aides, spiritual care and bereavement counselors, social workers and devoted local volunteers. The Des Moines office serves patients and families in Polk, Warren, Jasper, Powesheik, Dallas, Guthrie, Greene, Boone, Story, Marshall, Webster and Hamilton counties

Three Care Initiatives Hospice - Des Moines volunteers earn statewide accolades

September, 2019 - Myrna Beeber of Panora, Cindy Eggley of Johnston, and Janice Straight of Des Moines were recognized as outstanding hospice volunteers at the Hospice and Palliative Care of Iowa (HPCAI) Volunteer Recognition Ceremony held Sept. 20.

Des Moines Hospice staff go on dementia 'tour'

On Oct. 31, the Des Moines staff held a retreat which included a "tour" through dementia. One group put on glasses that mimicked cataracts or macular degeneration, sensory plates in their shoes, earphones generating extra sound and gloves to imitate tactile function loss. The other group were caretakers. Together they were asked to perform a variety of tasks to demonstrate the challenges of living with dementia. At the end of the day, they also took some time to focus on self-care for the caretakers.

Des Moines-based team holds retreat, silent auction

Care Initiatives Hospice - Des Moines held a retreat for team members on Wednesday, March 29 at WestEnd Salvage. "It's a way to give back to our team members for all of their hard work and everything they bring to our patients and families," said Team Director Jennifer Hopley.
