We are excited to shine the volunteer spotlight on an inspiring gentleman who goes far beyond expectations. Tom McKee is one of Care’s most versatile volunteers. He has done just about everything, including patient visits, phone call companionship, writing personal notes of care, answering phones in the office, and even making deliveries from time to time. This volunteer extraordinaire truly walks the walk.

September, 2019 – Ginny Dowell and Tom McKee, both of Cedar Rapids, recently received honors at the Hospice and Palliative Care Association of Iowa (HPCAI) Volunteer Recognition Ceremony. Their dedication and commitment as volunteers with Care Initiatives Hospice has brought hours of dedicated compassion to dozens of area families.

Greenfield volunteer wins statewide accolades

September, 2019 – Janet Askew recently received honors at the Hospice and Palliative Care Association of Iowa (HPCAI) Volunteer Recognition Ceremony. Her dedication and commitment as a volunteer with Care Initiatives Hospice has brought hours of dedicated compassion to dozens of area families.

Care Initiatives Hospice - Sioux City Volunteer Recognized at State Event

September, 2019 - Pam Shever, from Correctionville, Iowa, is one of 53 volunteers who were honored at the Hospice and Palliative Care Association of Iowa Annual Volunteer Recognition Ceremony on Friday, September 20, 2019 held in Des Moines. 

“Pam is a wonderful, caring volunteer for our hospice patients and their families,” said Sue Flemming, Care Initiatives Hospice Social Worker. 

Care Initiatives Hospice - Greenfield welcomes new volunteer coordinator

September, 2019 – Amanda Phillips has joined Care Initiatives Hospice – Greenfield as Volunteer Coordinator. She is a recent transplant to the area making her home on a farm near Diagonal.

Originally from Kansas, she received her bachelor’s degree in photography from Kansas State University and studied abroad in Morocco. She has lived in Vermont, Colorado and Missouri working in employee recruitment.

Jan Caruso joined the Care Initiatives Hospice volunteer team in Albia in December, 2014 after experiencing the great support and services offered by Hospice at the time of her husband’s passing.

“I enjoy spending time with people who have gained wisdom from many years,” she says. Jan is generous with her time often reading to patients, chatting with them or family and giving hugs freely. She embodies the true meaning of Hospice. Thank you, Jan!
