  • Local LPN uses artistic talent to spread thankfulness

    Artistic talents and compassion come together beautifully at Lyon Specialty Care in Rock Rapids! Every fall, LPN Penny Behrens spends time with each resident asking what they are thankful for and creates a board or book with every resident's comment. This year she painted a tree with the leaves representing residents who have lived here this past year. The staff members are represented by the border around the tree. We are so thankful for Penny to take the time to make something very special for our residents and staff to enjoy!

    Donald has had a lifelong love of horses...particularly paint horses. Volunteers Robin and Don brought their Appaloosa, Regis, to visit Donald in Grinnell. Donald's niece Janet and friend Rob also joined us for the occasion. Regis made a lot of people happy day! #MyHospice

  • Six hospice volunteers honored at statewide ceremony

         Six Care Initiatives Hospice volunteers were recognized and honored at the 2018 Hospice and Palliative Care Association of Iowa’s Volunteer Luncheon. Those honored are the following, also pictured, left to right. 

         Joan Godbersen joined the Sioux City Hospice Volunteer Team in 2014. She is a Eucharistic minister and provides spiritual support to our patients and she also serves as an 11th Hour Volunteer. “Joan has the ability to connect immediately with patients,” said Volunteer Coordinator Deb Poss. “She is calming and a great comfort in the transitioning phase of life.”...

         Kristin Behrendsen, RN, has joined Care Initiatives Hospice as the new Sioux City Team Director. In her role as Team Director, Behrendsen will oversee a team of a registered nurses, hospice aides, spiritual care and bereavement counselors, social workers and devoted local volunteers.
