Jan Caruso joined the Care Initiatives Hospice volunteer team in Albia in December, 2014 after experiencing the great support and services offered by Hospice at the time of her husband’s passing.

“I enjoy spending time with people who have gained wisdom from many years,” she says. Jan is generous with her time often reading to patients, chatting with them or family and giving hugs freely. She embodies the true meaning of Hospice. Thank you, Jan!

Galbraith chosen as Social Services Coordinator of the Year

Pam Galbraith of Ravenwood Specialty Care in Waterloo received Care Initiatives Outstanding Social Services Coordinator for 2015. She has been with Ravenwood for 33 years.

Administrator Lori Bellinger says that Galbraith is always putting others first. “Whether you are a resident, a family member, a community member, a health care provider or a team member, Pam will try everything in her power to get done what is needed,” Bellinger says.

Marshalltown resident honored as Outstanding Maintenance Employee of the Year

Rory Wedgwood of Southridge Specialty Care in Marshalltown received Care Initiatives Outstanding Maintenance Employee of 2015.

Wedgwood has been a valuable asset to the staff and residents since 2002. “When a repair order comes in, it’s like Rory can read our minds and has it fixed before we know it,” says Administrator Murt Steffen. “He has been out on the rooftop in subzero weather. Come in from his family Thanksgiving dinner to correct a problem. He even cooks special meals and brings them in for residents who don’t have family to take them out.”
